Former Heat editor Mark Frith has claimed that Amy Winehouse's husband Blake Fielder-Civil could be the negative influence in the singer's life.

Fielder-Civil was sentenced to 27 months in jail earlier this month after being found guilty of GBH and attempting to pervert the course of justice and many have claimed he is responsible for Winehouse's problems.

And talking to inthenews.co.uk ahead of the release of his new book, Frith explained that the Grammy winner may struggle to recover if her jailed husband remains in her life.

"It's interesting with Amy because, with Britney [Spears], you could see how troubled she is, but with Amy, there's a fine line between the crazy lifestyle she's been living all her adult life and the out of control side," he said.

"She has a very strong family unit and I just hope she stays in touch with what's important in her life and looks after herself.

"But I think that's going to be very difficult with this bloke still on the scene."

Frith served as editor of the celebrity magazine for ten years but explained that the well-publicised problems of Winehouse and Spears were a factor in his stepping down.

"I was sitting in the office thinking 'I'm supposed to be doing a light-hearted look at the world of celebrity and all I'm getting are pictures of Ms Winehouse with cuts on her upper arm'. It didn't match."

Frith's new book Celeb Diaries is released on September 4th.
