Extracts of the 911 call that preceded Demi Moore's hospitalisation earlier this week have been released.

In the recording, which was made available to the media by Los Angeles fire officials, friends of the 49-year-old actress sound distressed by her condition.

When asked if Moore is breathing normally, a woman responds: "No, not so normal. More kind of shaking, convulsing, burning up."

The caller then reveals: "She smoked something. It's not marijuana but it is similar to incense."

Officials did not reveal the full answer of what substance Moore had taken, as medical privacy rules do not permit the information to be made public.

Moore was rushed to hospital on Monday January 23rd, after falling ill while spending time with friends.

The actress has raised concerns about her wellbeing since announcing her divorce from Two and a Half Men star Ashton Kutcher in November.

In the call, Moore's friend says the Ghost star has "been having some issues lately with some other stuff".

Kutcher was seen partying in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in the days following his estranged wife's hospitalisation, before heading back to Los Angeles on Friday, the same day Moore was released from hospital.
