Sir Sean Connery is struggling to make up his mind on whether or not to appear in the next Indiana Jones instalment.

Film industry magazine Variety reports that the original James Bond star, now 76 years old, is holding back on making a final decision that would rule him in or out of the forthcoming Indiana Jones adventure.

It has been 18 years since Harrison Ford last donned his fedora and cracked Indiana's trademark bullwhip in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but the passage of time hasn't dampened the enthusiasm of George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Ford himself for the project.

Although Cate Blanchett and Ray Winstone have been earmarked for important roles in the forthcoming film, whose eventual title is yet to be revealed and is only referred to in the industry as Indiana Jones 4, Connery is proving a tougher nut to crack.

The whole of Hollywood knows that Connery, who played Indiana's father in the final film of the original trilogy, would prove a massive box office draw to the film if he were to feature in even a cameo role.

But whether Connery decides to emerge out of retirement – his last film came out in 2003 – remains to be seen. He has said he will consider it if the script is good enough – and, one presumes, if the pay cheque is sufficiently large.

What do you think?
