Legendary sitcom series Blackadder could be set for an outing on the big screen, Stephen Fry has claimed.
The 48-year-old actor, who has appeared in every series of the show, told a website yesterday evening that both writer Ben Elton and comedian Rowan Atkinson are considering the possibility of a return.
"Ben Elton wanted to do a Blackadder movie set in the Russian Revolution, with a Russian branch of the family
he had some brilliant ideas .. maybe that'll happen one day," he said.
He also said that he had spoken to Atkinson at the weekend, who had "confided" that he missed the joys of Blackadder rehearsals and all that".
Atkinson's enthusiasm for a rumoured fifth series of the popular sitcom is well-known, but, as Fry pointed out, there was a danger that the "high note" on which Blackadder Goes Fourth ended would take some effort to live up to.
"There's nothing worse than an overweight boxer past his prime lumbering into the ring past his sell by date
best not to risk it, eh?" Fry wrote on the forum.
Other Blackadder scenarios including settings of the show in World War II and the 1960s have also been discussed, Fry claimed.
