Legendary rockers the Rolling Stones are to headline Sunday of this year's Isle of Wight festival. Their involvement adds to an already impressive line-up, with Friday and Saturday headlined by Snow Patrol and Kasabian. Other acts confirmed include Keane, The Fratellis and Amy Winehouse - who the Stones would reportedly like to duet with.
Speaking of Ms Winehouse, the enfant terrible of the British music scene is currently creating a storm in the US. Hot on the heels of her recent success at the Brit awards - where she was named best British female solo artist - Winehouse has become the highest debuting British female artist in the history of the US albums chart after her album Back to Black entered at number seven. When told of her success by her manager she said: "You're kidding, that's unbelievable. I'm really proud of this record."
Newly reformed act The Police are to headline the US Virgin festival. Also performing at the event on August 4th-5th in Baltimore are The Smashing Pumpkins and Beastie Boys . These details are just a teaser however as a full line-up has yet to be revealed. The festival's site promises that this will be "coming soon".
Lou Reed has decided to add a third UK date to his forthcoming 'Berlin' European tour. Originally just two dates were planned for the London Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday June 30th and Sunday July 1st but a gig in the north has now been set for the Manchester International festival on Friday June 29th.
He will appear with a 30-piece ensemble including his band, a string and horn section, and a children's choir. Encouraging people to go, Reed said: "I only do this every thirty years. One time, one time only."
Sugababes vs Girls Aloud are reigning at the top of the UK singles chart but that may not be for long. Releases this week include On Call by Kings of Leon, I Want Candy by Melanie C and All The Love In Your Hands by Thirteen Senses.
Meanwhile over in the album chart X Factor runner-up Ray Quinn's first album Doing It My Way is at the top of the UK album chart followed by Take That's Beautiful World - which has now been 16 weeks in the chart. Other new entries storming into the top ten include Ben Mills and Simply Red.
Hoping to make a dent on the album charts this week are Elton John with Rocket Man: The Definitive Collection, David Gray with Shine and Brett Anderson with his self-titled debut solo album.
