Vaughan will confine himself to Test duties

England finished their Test series against the West Indies on a high as they overcame the tourists and some tricky weather conditions to secure a comfortable seven-wicket win in the fourth Test.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Chris Gayle started the day at the crease after a half-hour rain delay with their side still lagging 30 runs short of England's first-innings total on 83-3.

With time the visitors' most likely saviour, the England bowling attack was frustrated by the wait and started in feisty fashion.

Matthew Hoggard tempted a loose drive from Gayle off only the third ball of the day and his blade duly feathered a simple catch to Matthew Prior behind the stumps.

Dwayne Bravo battled on in the opener's place and rode his luck as Hoggard and an uncharacteristically-accurate spell from Steve Harmison gave him some uncomfortable moments.

As his side limped past England's total and into the safety of the lunch break on 131-4, it seemed that they might yet avert defeat.

But their resistance took a fatal knock when Bravo was lured into a reckless drive off Panesar's bowling and Ryan Sidebottom claimed the catch to end his innings on 43.

The Northamptonshire spinner then dismissed Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin with a couple of corking deliveries to rip out the heart of the West Indies' batting line-up.

Harmison then scattered Fidel Edwards' stumps after Daren Powell had scooped an earlier delivery from the home favourite straight to a grateful fielder.

With Chanderpaul finally succumbing for 70, England were left with just 110 runs to chase for victory.

Both Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook failed to find their feet as England paid for the opening 29 runs with two wickets.

But a belligerent 48 from Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen's solid 28 set England back on course as they wound up on 111-3.
