England under-21s beat Montenegro under-21s 3-0 in the first game of their Euro 2009 qualifying campaign.
Nedum Onuoha and Gabriel Agbonlahor scored in the opening ten minutes while Andrew Surman netted in the last minute, in Stuart Pearce's first game since taking over full-time.
Newcastle United winger James Milner set a new record for England U21 caps after making his 30th appearance.
Pearce's side made a bright start and took the lead on six minutes.
Milner crossed for Manchester City's Onuoha to head home to finish off a sweeping move involving Agbonlahor and skipper Stephen Taylor.
Four minutes later, England U21s made it 2-0 when Arsenal striker Theo Walcott found Agbonlahor with the Aston Villa star slotting home.
Montenegro U21s improved in the second half with Marko Cetkovic and Simon Vukcevic both being denied by fine saves from goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Southampton ace Surman capped off a good night for England U21s in the dying minutes with a finish from close range.
England U21s face Bulgaria U21s on Tuesday in their bid to qualify for Sweden 2009.
