Portsmouth goalkeeper David James will miss the end of the Premier League season and England's summer internationals to undergo shoulder surgery.
The veteran shot-stopper, who was replaced in goal by 21-year-old Canadian Asmir Begovic in last night's 3-1 win over Sunderland at Fratton Park because of unrelated neck pain, will go under the knife this week.
This means James will be ruled out of England's World Cup qualifiers in Kazakhstan on June 6th and at home to Andorra on June 10th.
"He's been playing with a bad shoulder for quite some time, so he's having an operation on Wednesday," Pompey boss Paul Hart revealed
"He missed the Sunderland game with an unrelated neck injury but he will now miss the two England games next month as well.
"Jamo's been a star for us all season but we had to get this problem sorted and hopefully we'll have him back for the start of the season."
Despite his senior years, James, 38, has enjoyed a relatively unbroken run in the Pompey first-team since joining from Manchester City three years ago, making 128 appearances.
