The England Ladies team failed to add to the feel-good factor surrounding English football at the moment as they lost 6-2 to Germany in the final of the 2009 European Championships.
Hope Powell's side put up a brave fight against the favourites in Helsinki but were ultimately left wanting as the Germans proved too strong.
Kelly Smith and Karen Carney scored the goals for England but they were always playing catch-up.
And two goals each for Birgit Prinz and Inka Grings, a 40-yard thunderbolt from Melanie Behringer and a Kim Kulig strike put the game well and truly beyond the Three Lions.
Despite the heavy defeat, England will be roundly praised for their achievement in even reaching the final.
