Elviin is a British singer and songwriter from South London who was the main support act for Alesha Dixon's UK tour entitled The Alesha Show.
As the second support act of the night before Alesha took to the stage, Elviin gave a good performance which was in my opinion worthy of a slightly longer set. He performed songs from his new album and gave a first-class performance of In Colour which opens with an interesting melody on the piano that gradually evolves with the addition of a cool and well-crafted beat. Elviin is clearly a master behind the piano, and matched with a live vocal that is both sexy and soulful, he is set to be a big star.
Just minutes into his performance, I could not help thinking that he reminded me of a somewhat more eccentric version of John Legend. He was fun, colourful and vibrant, and full of the ability to get the weary crowd swamped full of Alesha fans going. With a bit of time and build up from the crowd, this cool ladies' man started to sneak out from under his skin- he actually has a very unique style; kind of alternative post punk meets soul. It did however make me wonder if his uniqueness was the result of the crowd's energy. His quirky style was also reflected in his image which reminded me of Joseph and his coat of many colours. This did not however stop many of the adolescent hearts in the crowd from throbbing. It is fair to say that Elviin is going to be a definite hit with the ladies.
Overall, Elviin gave a well-deserving performance which definitely managed to impress the crowd. Recently named as the Guardian's 'new artist of the day' Elviin is not likely to be a thing of the past in the near future.
He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he is likely to boast a strong fan base of soul lovers. This artist is another British cool kid that is definitely one to watch out for.
