Edinburgh will play host to a sixth Live8 concert featuring Dido, Snow Patrol, Travis and The Thrills, organisers have revealed.
The concert is planned to coincide with the G8 summit of world leaders a short distance away in Gleneagles.
Also featuring Annie Lennox, Wet Wet Wet, The Proclaimers and Texas, it will take place on July 6 at Murrayfield four days after the series of
worldwide concerts already announced for London, Paris, Rome, Berlin and Philidelphia.
Live8 organiser Sir Bob Geldof has already called for one million people to descend on Edinburgh to protest and put pressure on world leaders to take action to address poverty around the world.
The concert, which coincides with the first day of the G8 summit, will be the climax to the day of demonstrations.
Launching the event, Scottish singer Midge Ure tried to allay fears that millions of people descending on the Scottish capital would cause chaos,
and urged people only to travel there if they had booked accommodation.
"To drag your backside up from London all the way to Edinburgh to smash a window doesn't make any sense," he said.
"I wouldn't bring my family to something I thought could be a dreadful situation. I'm bringing my family here to celebrate, enjoy, be there and stand up and be counted."
Around 62,000 tickets for the Edinburgh gig will be up for grabs through a phone text competition due to be announced later this week.
