Bernie Ecclestone has admitted that he has doubts over whether Donington Park will be ready in time to host the 2010 British grand prix.
It has been reported that Donington Ventures Leisure Limited (DVLL), who are responsible for developing the Leicestershire circuit up to formula one standards, has failed to meet the extended deadline to prove to Ecclestone that they have the funding to complete construction and to host the event, which is scheduled for July 2010.
Progress on the rebuild has been slow so far and Ecclestone has admitted for the first time that he can't see how the construction will be finished in time for the event, even if circuit boss Simon Gillett manages to find the necessary funding.
"It's not good, is it," Ecclestone told the Times newspaper.
"Even if they get the money, I cannot see how it will all be ready in time to go.
"It is very disappointing because we thought it would happen, but they cannot go on missing deadlines.
"They could still come to us saying they have the money, but there is no way the circuit would be ready at this late stage.
"It looks as though we will have to start planning again."
If Donington isn't able to host the British grand prix in 2010, Ecclestone has hinted that the race will be held at its traditional home Silverstone.
