The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are set to name Michael Vaughan's successor as England captain at a press conference later today.
Vaughan stepped down after five years at the helm of the national team yesterday afternoon in an emotional address to the media in Loughborough.
The leading candidates to take over from the Yorkshireman, who is now set to take some time away from the game before returning to county cricket for the rest of the summer, include Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Strauss and Andrew Flintoff.
Whoever is named as the new skipper will lead the side in the final Test against South Africa at the Oval this weekend, in what is now a dead rubber with the tourists already 2-0 up in the four-match series.
After this weekend's match, Vaughan's replacement will have Test series in India and the West Indies and a home series against Sri Lanka before the Australians come back to England to contest the Ashes.
In the last Ashes series on home shores, England - led by Vaughan - won the famous urn for the first time in 18 years.
