Former World Champion Peter Ebdon booked his place in the final of the UK Championships after beating John Higgins 9-7 in York.
The world number seven edged a thrilling semi-final after showing the form which saw him triumph at the Crucible in 2002.
Ebdon clinched a dramatic frame 16 after both players had missed straightforward pots under pressure.
Higgins missed an easy red which Ebdon punished to seal victory at the Barbican Centre.
Ebdon racked up a break of 97 to take a 1-0 lead followed by breaks of 132 in frame six and 121 in frame 11.
After leading 4-2, Ebdon was helpless as Higgins fought back after taking the next two frames to go level at the first session interval.
The Scot went ahead after a break of 67 in frame nine but crucially missed a routine red in frame 13 which would have put him level at 7-7.
Ebdon went 8-5 ahead after a break of 80 but Higgins continued to show his fighting spirit by winning the next two frames to keep up the pressure.
The other semi-final will take place tomorrow with World Champion Graham Dott taking on Stephen Hendry in the battle of Scotland.
