Struggling Crystal Palace have earned a vital 1-0 win over Roy Keane's Sunderland in the Championship at Selhurst Park.
A goal from Mark Hudson four minutes before half-time ended the Black Cats seven match unbeaten run, in a game hampered by severe fog.
Sunderland were denied a point by stunning saves from Palace keeper Julian Speroni.
David Connolly fashioned the first chance of the game after firing a shot wide following a corner on ten minutes.
The visitors should have scored early on when Connolly sent through Grant Leadbitter who dragged his shot wide.
Graham Kavanagh then came close to breaking the deadlock after whacking a long-range effort over the bar.
In the space of 60 seconds, Mark Kennedy and Clinton Morrison both spurned chances for Peter Taylor's side.
Hudson fired home on 41 minutes after Shefki Kuqi's flick-on in the box to lift the Eagles away from the drop zone.
In the second half, midfielder Dean Whitehead sent his header narrowly over the bar as the visitors continued to pile on the pressure.
Goalkeeper Speroni acrobatically tipped defender Stanislav Varga's header over the bar on 79 minutes as Palace clung on.
The result sees Palace jump to 16th place while Keane's side remain in 11th.
