Rock-bottom Charlton Athletic have parted company with manager Iain Dowie.

The under-fire boss was in charge for only 15 games at the Valley after joining the Addicks in the summer.

Charlton lie at the foot of the table with eight points after two wins from 12 league games

The struggling London outfit lost 3-2 to Wigan at the JJB Stadium on Saturday after Paul Jewell's side punished the visitors' sloppy defending.

Dowie had led Charlton into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup last week but his side have picked up just one point from five away matches in the Premiership.

A club statement read: "The Addicks announced on Monday night that head coach Iain Dowie had left Charlton.

"The club will issue a further statement on Tuesday morning."

Dowie made an acrimonious exit from Crystal Palace in the aftermath of the Eagles' Championship play-off defeat last season to arrive at the Valley.

The 41-year-old replaced Alan Curbishley who left at the end of last season after 15 years at the club.

Dowie's first job in management was with League One side Oldham Athletic; who he guided to the play-offs in 2003.

Charlton face a crunch clash away at Reading on Saturday in their bid to beat the drop.
