Aberdeen were held to 1-1 draw by Lokomotiv Moscow at Pittodrie Stadium in the Uefa Cup this evening.
The Scottish team scored first through Alexander Diamond but failed to create many more clear cut chances and conceded a goal which Branislav Ivanovic scored.
Aberdeen were close to taking the lead inside five minutes when Sone Aluko saw an 18 yard shot just go over the bar. Lee Miller came even closer but he managed to push his shot wide from only 12 yards out.
But the home side didn't have to wait too long to score as poor defending from Lokomotiv Moscow allowed Diamond to head home from a Barry Nicholson corner.
Aberdeen, however, failed to go on from the opening goal and allowed the Russian team to enjoy plenty of possession. Dmitri Sychev should have equalised for the visitors but he failed to score from just inside the penalty area.
Lokomotiv's equaliser came in the last minute of the first half and it was a replica of the Aberdeen goal. Alexander Samedov put in a good inswinging corner and it was headed into the goal by Ivanovic from six yards out.
The game became a scrappy affair in the second half as tackles came flying in and goal scoring chances were rare.
However, the best chance of the half fell to Lokomotiv as Aberdeen were again caught sleeping from an inswinging Samedov corner, but this time they were fortunate as Sychev headed over the bar.
The visitors were the better attacking side and in truth Aberdeen did well to hold onto a draw. Their only decent chance of the second half came when Aluko had a shot cleared off the line by Malkhaz Asatiani.
