Sir Rodney Walker has been appointed as Donington Park's new non-executive chairman elect.
Walker most recently oversaw Manchester's Commonwealth Games project, as well as the building of the new Wembley Stadium.
And he will start work in his new role once circuit owners Donington Ventures Leisure Limited (DVLL) has raised all the funding required to complete construction of the circuit.
"We welcome the appointment of Sir Rodney to the board. His experience in the stewardship of dynamic growth companies and knowledge of the management of sporting venues and sporting associations will be invaluable," said Donington chief executive Simon Gillett.
"His appointment is the first of a few key executive and non-executive appointments we hope to announce in the coming weeks."
Walker, who was involved with Donington Park Estates between the years of 1999 to 2005, said: "I welcome this opportunity to return to Donington and support the management team in their strategy to establish Donington as the home of British motorsport.
"I look forward to playing my part in the delivery of world-class motorsport facilities at Donington, the new home of the FIA formula one British grand prix for the next 17 years."
Last week Donington released its financial plan for the development of the Leicestershire circuit, which is already underway.
