South Africa began their preparation for next month's ICC Champions Trophy with a five-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Bloemfontein.
An unbeaten 85 from opener Boeta Dippenaar lead the Proteas to pass their target of 202 with 37 balls to spare.
Jacques Kallis, Andre Nel and Charl Langeveldt had earlier taken two wickets apiece for the hosts to restrict Zimbabwe to 201/7 in their 50 overs.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Zimbabwe were led by a half century from opener Vusi Sibanda (51) after the early dismissal of captain Terence Duffin for three runs.
Chamu Chibhabha (37) and Hamilton Masakadza (33) helped the tourist's along before both being dismissed by Kallis.
Elton Chigumbura made 26 not out to stem the flow of wickets and set a competitive target.
South Africa began badly and were 33-3 after nine overs with the experienced duo of Herschelle Gibbs (2) and Kallis (4) failing to make significant contributions.
But Dippenaar batted patiently and put on a fourth wicket partnership of 121 with Jean-Paul Duminy (60).
Veteran Sean Pollock (16 not out) then hit the winning runs to put South Africa 1-0 ahead in the series.
Fast bowler Ed Rainsford was the pick of Zimbabwe's bowlers with 2-29 from his ten overs.
The next ODI is on Sunday with the final match in the series three days later.
