Derbyshire beat Durham by one run in a thriller at Derby in the Friends Provident Trophy.

The home side posted 236-6 in their 50 overs with Australian Chris Rogers top-scoring with 72.

Durham were bowled out with the last ball of the game when Neil Killeen was run out trying to scramble for a single which would have tied the game.

Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bat, with Rogers putting on an opening stand of 132 with Steve Stubbings (52).

John Sadler (37) and ex-England international Rikki Clarke (33) helped their side post a competitive total.

Durham made a solid start in reply with Michael di Venuto hitting 41 while Phil Mustard made 45.

But Graham Wagg then tore through the top order taking four wickets to leave the visitors in trouble.

Paul Collingwood made 25 while Ben Harmison smashed an unbeaten 31 to put Durham on the verge of a shock victory, before Killeen was run out for 16 at the death.

The win for Derbyshire puts them second in the North Division, level on points with leaders Lancashire, while Durham stay in fourth place.

Elsewhere, an unbeaten ton from James Hildreth gave Somerset a five-wicket win over Hampshire at Taunton.

Hildreth smashed 112 off just 90 balls as the Sabres passed their target of 286 with nine balls to spare.

After being put into bat, the Hawks' top order put in a solid display with the top five batsman all reaching 30.

Kevin Pietersen top-scored with 62 while Sean Ervine, John Crawley, and Michael Lumb all made half-centuries as they lost just four wickets.

Somerset were in trouble early on when Marcus Trescothick was bowled by Ervine for one. Zander de Bruyn and Craig Kieswetter put on a partnership of 65 before the latter was caught and bowled by Greg Lamb.

Hildreth then came to the crease and smashed the Hawks' bowlers all over the park, with 12 boundaries and two sixes to seal victory.

The win puts Somerset top of the South West Division while Hampshire are bottom after two defeats in two matches.
