Billy Davies has been appointed manager of Nottingham Forest after the sacking of Colin Calderwood.
The 44-year-old former Derby County manager has signed a three-and-a-half year contract and will take charge of his first game against Charlton on Saturday January 10th. He will be at the stands for the FA Cup match against Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday.
Davies is joined at the club by former Sheffield United coach David Kelly, who he worked with at Derby and will be his assistant at Forest.
"Billy's record in the Championship is superb and we're hoping he can build on his already impressive achievements with us," Forest chief executive Mark Arthur told the club's official website.
Davies has had experience in the Championship with Preston North End and Derby. He came agonisingly close to taking Preston to the Premier League in 2005, but they lost in the Championship play-off final.
He had better luck when he moved to Derby in 2006, gaining promotion in his first season. But things were traumatic for Davies in the Premier League and he was sacked in November 2007 with the club bottom of the Premier League.
Davies has vowed to give his all to Forest and his long-term aim was to take the club back into the Premier League.
"I hope my record speaks for itself. I've never been so fired up to succeed in my career," said Davies. "There is massive potential at Forest and nothing would give me greater pleasure than eventually leaving the club in a better condition than when I found it.
"The long-term aim is to reach the Premier League but in the short-term it is to keep Forest in the Championship. I've enjoyed my time out of the game but now I am raring to go."
