Former Dutch international midfielder Edgar Davids has pledged to remain and fight for his place in the Tottenham midfield despite recent signings in his position.
Former club Ajax had been hopeful of engineering a reunion with the iconic player who had suggested that he had doubts over whether he would fulfil the second half of his two-year deal in north London.
But the combative 33-year-old has snubbed a return to his homeland, much to the delight of his manager and countryman Martin Jol.
"Ajax wanted him, but he wanted to stay here. He wants to be at Spurs, there is no issue and he has the mentality we need," said Jol.
Davids proved himself last season with 29 battling appearances at the heart of a resurgent Tottenham team as he comes to the end of a career that has taken in many of Europe's top club sides.
Juventus, Barcelona, AC Milan and Internazionale have all called upon the services of the two-times European Cup winner.
He may find outings more sparse next term however with the summer seeing Didier Zokora sign from St Etienne and Teemu Tainio impress through pre-season friendlies.
