Lindsay Davenport beat Eleni Daniilidou 6-2 6-2 in her long-anticipated return to the singles scene at the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic in Bali.
The 31-year-old Davenport has been away for almost a year due to the birth of her son back in June.
But her absence never showed as the American easily dealt with fifth seed Daniilidou in the opening round of the tournament.
From 1-2 down in the first set the former Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open champion reeled off 20 consecutive points to take the first set.
Her ninth ace of the game sealed the second set and the match, and Davenport claimed she was thrilled at her comeback.
"You never really know what to expect after a year off and especially having a baby, so to come out and play the way I did is so exciting and it means a lot to me," she said.
"It was a challenge. I was trying to focus a lot and keep my concentration. I'm really happy I won."
Third seed Patty Schnyder also progressed to the second round after a 6-4 6-2 victory over China's Zhang Shuai.
