One person has been shot dead in Sevenoaks
A woman shot dead by a police officer in Sevenoaks, Kent, has been named.

Ann Sanderson, who was from the Kent commuter town, was shot during the early hours of yesterday morning.

The 37-year-old was shot dead in the car park located at the back of a disused shop on Sevenoaks high street at about 01:20 BST.

Armed police officers were in attendance and a firearm was discharged at the scene.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is carrying out an investigation into the situation led by deputy senior investigator Bill Stone.

The police watchdog said that first aid was given at the scene and an ambulance was called but the woman was pronounced dead.

IPCC commissioner Nicola Williams said: "I send my sympathies to the woman's family and friends and also the police officers concerned.

"Whenever there is a fatal shooting by police our independent investigators go to the incident immediately."

A post-mortem on Ms Sanderson's body is due to take place today.
