Two men have been arrested under the Terrorism Act
Two men have been arrested at the University of Nottingham campus under the Terrorism Act.

Police have said that the men, aged 22 and 30, were arrested yesterday morning, with one believed to be a current student at the university and the other a former student.

The BBC reports the men are being questioned while campus property is searched by officers.

The arrests came as part of a joint operation between Nottingham police and the Midlands counter-terrorist unit.

Superintendent Simon Nickless, from Nottinghamshire police, said that officers were working alongside community representatives to "offer support and reassurance".

He added the local community's response to the arrest had been "calm and rational", describing yesterday's operation as "low-key".

"Feedback is that people accept that this is the sort of operation that is necessary and reasonable for the welfare of communities," Superintendent Nickless said.End of story
