An 18-year-old man was stabbed to death in Walthamstow early this morning, police have confirmed.
Officers on routine patrol discovered the victim suffering from a stab wound after seeing two or three males running away from a grassy area off Selbourne Road, Walthamstow, at around 01:40 BST.
The victim was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to Whipps Cross hospital, a statement from Metropolitan police said. A post-mortem will take place on Monday at 10:00 BST, it was announced this afternoon.
Two males were arrested after the incident. One, a 17-year-old, was taken to an east London hospital after suffering a "minor slash" to his arm. He and the other suspect, a male in his late teens or early 20s, are being held at an east London police station.
Detective Chief Inspector John Sandlin, who is leading the Met's investigation into the murder, said the incident occurred close to a well-lit bus garage in Walthamstow Central.
"I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the murder to please contact police with any information you may have," he said.
"Did you see several males in the grass area near to the bus garage and close to Selborne Walk Shopping Centre? Did you see anyone run away from the scene?"
Those with information are requested to call the incident room in Barking on 0208 345 3715 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
