Police have launched a manhunt after a shopkeeper was shot dead in his newsagents yesterday.
Merseyside Police said the shopkeeper, who was a father of six, was from the Yemeni community.
The incident took place at Dinas Lane, in Huyton, Liverpool. The man, in his 40s, died of a single gunshot to the chest in what police believe to be a robbery.
Although said there is nothing to suggest the killing was racially motivated, "nothing appeared to have been taken", said Detective Superintendent Paul Richardson, from Merseyside Police's gun crime unit, Matrix.
Mr Richardson added: "I would like to say it is an isolated incident but I would urge anyone with any information to contact the police.
"It is very, very tragic that a man at the peak of his life in terms of his business and in general has had his life taken away."
Locals have named the man as Abdul Saeed and Merseyside Police are expected to formally identify him later today.
The police said officers are looking for one man, who was not from the Yemeni community, in connection with the shooting.
He is described as white, between 25 and 35 years old, with a medium build and dark hair.
