A police van "collided" with six people, including an eight-year-old boy, standing in a front garden in Farnworth last night.
Three men aged 29, 27 and 21, a 38-year-old woman and the eight-year-old suffered bruising from the incident but a 21-year-old man was sent to hospital for treatment. He was experiencing chest pains and had suffered bruising to his leg.
Greater Manchester police said the van had been dispatched to attend reports of a domestic incident in Brentwood Drive, Farnworth, when it collided with a Citroen ZX at the junction between Brentwood Drive and Ashby Close.
"As a result of this, the van mounted the kerb and entered an unfenced front garden where it collided with six pedestrians who had been stood in the garden of a house on Ashby Close," a statement said.
The police vehicle came to rest after crashing into an unoccupied parked Vauxhall Astra.
GMP officers have appealed for witnesses to the incident and launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The driver of the police van, which had activated its emergency equipment before the initial collision occurred, has been suspended from driving duties. He received treatment for shock, while the driver of the vehicle Citroen ZX was unharmed.
