Police examine body found in woodland

Police are investigating the discovery of a body in woodland in East Sussex
Police officers investigating the disappearance of award-winning make-up artist Diane Chenery-Wickens are examining the discovery of a body in woodland.

A woman found the decomposed body off Worth Lane, Little Horsted, near Uckfield, East Sussex, while walking her dog at around 10:00 BST this morning.

Sussex police claim the body has yet to be identified and forensic and post mortem examinations will follow to establish the cause of death.

Mrs Chenery-Wickens is reported to have been travelling down to London on January 24th when her husband reported her missing.

David Chenery-Wickens was arrested on suspicion of murder but later released on police bail.

A Sussex police statement confirmed that the woman's body discovered today was "heavily decomposed" and that they were "considering the possibility that it may be Diane Chenery-Wickens".

The body was discovered clothed and concealed in undergrowth roughly ten yards from Worth Lane.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Johns, who is leading the investigation, said: "Whilst the potential link with the Diane Chenery-Wickens' case is an obvious line of enquiry we need to keep an open mind until the formal identification and investigation of the scene have concluded.

"I am appealing for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity in and around this lane since the beginning of this year."

Police have called for anyone with any information which may assist the investigation to contact them on 0845 60 70 999.End of story
