Police are appealing for information in connection with a rape in a park in Manchester today.

A spokesperson for the police said a 19-year-old woman had been raped in Jubilee Park in Ashton-in-Makerfield in the early hours of the morning.

The attacker apparently offered to walk the victim home after leaving a local pub but later forced her to go into the park where he raped her.

The man is said to be of Asian origin, in his mid 20s to early 30s, and is of slim build with dark brown hair in a Mohican style.

Police say the suspect was wearing a red T-shirt with blue jeans on the night in question.

Detective sergeant Clare Devlin of Wigan CID said: "The man offered to walk the victim home and she agreed.

"He has then broken that trust in the most horrendous way and attacked her.

"I am appealing to anyone that may have been in Mad Jacks last night or that may have been close to Jubilee Park in the early hours of this morning and may have seen anyone matching the description of this man to come forward," he added.
