A teenage boy is in a critical condition after being stabbed in a park in Burton-on-Trent.
A 16-year-old male has been arrested by Staffordshire police on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the stabbing.
Emergency services were first alerted to the incident after receiving reports of a stabbing in Bitham park, Stretton, shortly before midnight on Saturday.
There they discovered a 17-year-old suffering from stab wounds to the chest.
He was taken to nearby Queen's hospital before being transferred to Glenfield hospital in Leicester to undergo emergency surgery.
"He is now in intensive care in that hospital in a critical condition," a force spokesman said.
The 16-year-old arrested by police in the early hours of this morning is being held at Tamworth police station where he awaits interview.
Staffordshire police are urging any witnesses to the incident to contact them.
