Police have launched a murder investigation after a 77-year-old woman's body was discovered at a property near Winchester.
The elderly woman's body was discovered at 17:45 BST yesterday at Kiln Lane, Brambridge, near Otterbourne.
Searches of the local area and house-to-house inquiries were launched after the area was cordoned off. Forensic examinations continued this morning and 30 officers are now working on the case.
"This kind of crime is very rare in Hampshire and even more unusual in a rural area such as this," Detective Superintendent Shirley Dinnell of Hampshire police said.
"We need to find whoever is responsible for this murder as soon as possible. I am asking for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area on Friday to contact us."
A post-mortem is expected to be completed later today as Columbian, the codename for the operation to find the elderly woman's killer, continues.
