Amanda Knox has written a series of letters to her former boyfriend about her ongoing trial for the murder of Meredith Kercher.
Ms Knox, 21, and Raffaele Sollecito, 25, are currently on trial accused of murdering the British student at a flat in Perugia, Italy, after she refused to take part in a sex game.
The pair have been held in prison since their arrest at the end of 2007 and a series of letters written by Ms Knox to her former partner have been published today.
In one correspondence, dated February 14th of this year, Ms Knox writes about her experience at Perugia's Capanne jail and asks Mr Sollecito: "Are you alone in your cell?"
She adds: "The thing about women's prison is there about 70 of us altogether at the maximum and we all live on the same floor, so all of us are mixed together regardless of the length or type of conviction.
"For instance in my very own cell I'm living with a drug addict, a thief and an accomplice to murder... if I have to get down to their crimes they are here for."
In another letter four days later the American student writes of the pair's previous relationship during which she claims they "clicked" and made each other happy.
"We still have an opportunity to click. I'm still here for you," she claims.
"I know it doesn't seem like enough because you want where we were headed before the whole world suddenly threw us into an experience we don't deserve and we were cut off from each other.
"This whole experience is frustrating and I understand how you feel like I know you understand me."
At the end of the letter, Ms Knox adds: "You know what would be wonderful? Do you think they would let us hug each other when the judge absolves us? I'm tired of not being allowed to look at you."
The pair's trial is continuing in Perugia and both have denied murdering Ms Kercher
A third defendant Rudy Guede, from Ivory Coast, has already been convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the murder.
