A murder inquiry has been launched after a man was stabbed on Oxford Street, London.

The victim, said to be in his 20s, was stabbed outside McDonald's on the busy shopping street at 16:47 BST today.

Paramedics attended the scene and he was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan police said formal identification was awaited and next of kin were in the process of being informed.

Rush hour commuters were greeted by cordons on Oxford Street between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road following the stabbing, leading to buses being diverted.
