A man who was found with head injuries at a Premier League football match has died in hospital.
Police confirmed that the 31-year-old man, who was discovered at the Britannia Stadium as Stoke City played Blackburn Rovers, died in hospital overnight.
The football fan was found unconscious at just after 16:00 GMT yesterday, with reports speculating he had been hit on the head with a bin. Staffordshire police said a 25-year-old man had been arrested following the incident, and they were appealing for potential witnesses at the match to come forward.
Chief Inspector Adrian Roberts, the match commander, said the incident had taken place in the visitors section in the SEAT stand where 1,300 Blackburn supporters were watching the game.
The man was treated by the West Midland's Ambulance Service and the St John's Ambulance at the scene, before being taken to hospital.
Ch Insp Roberts said: "We are carrying out a full investigation of the incident to ascertain precisely what happened."
