Man hit by train after trying to retrieve luggage

David Davies was killed after being struck by a train at Barnehurst station
A man killed after being struck by a train at Barnehurst station was attempting to retrieve luggage he left onboard, British Transport police (BTP) have said.

David Davies, 38, was killed last Friday, May 9th, at the railway station when he attempted to re-board the 16:33 BST service from London Charing Cross to Crayford.

A BTP spokeswoman said Mr Davies appeared to have left some of his luggage onboard the train after he disembarked around 17:15 BST.

However, with the doors already locked shut he attempted to jump onto a ledge in-between two adjoining carriages before slipping and being struck by the train.

The spokeswoman claimed the driver of the train would have been unable to see Mr Davies' actions as they took place further down the platform.

Police have described the death as non-suspicious and confirmed a report was being complied for the coroner's office.

The incident was described as a "tragic accident" resulting from Mr Davies desperate actions to retrieve his items.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph his wife, Shelley, described Mr Davies' actions as "a moment of madness" and a "crazy, stupid mistake".

His parents Kathy and Tony Davies added: "We are absolutely devastated at his loss and don’t know how we will ever get over this tragic, tragic accident."End of story
