Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Croydon, south London in the early hours of this morning.
But they say they still want to speak to a mini-cab driver who dropped a white male near the scene of the fight in which the 17-year-old boy was killed.
The driver, who they believe was in a blue Ford Mondeo, argued with his passenger prior to dropping him off in Sumner Road.
The mini-cab passenger then argued with the victim and his friends, who were standing nearby at about 01:00 BST.
He returned to the scene 20 minutes later and the teenager was fatally stabbed soon afterwards. No-one else was hurt.
The teenager, who has not yet been named, sustained stab wounds to his neck and died in Mayday hospital three hours later. No-one has been arrested following the incident and no murder weapon has been recovered.
The mini-cab passenger is being treated as a suspect and is believed to have walked away from the scene towards London Road, police said. It is not clear whether the man they have arrested was the passenger of the mini-cab or not.
The victim is the 23rd teenager to die on the streets of London this year so far, edging the number of teenagers to have died violently in the capital ever closer to the record 27 teenage murders which occured last year.
News of the stabbing in London follows the death in Manchester of a 16-year-old boy at 02:00BST this morning. The boy also died on his way to hospital and police are appealing for witnesses. It is believed the victim will be named later this afternoon.
