Two teenagers found guilty of stabbing schoolboy Kodjo Yenga to death in west London last year have been given life sentences.

Kodjo, 16, was stabbed in the heart in March 2007 after he was attacked by a gang in Hammersmith.

Today, a judge at the Old Bailey ordered Brandon Richard, 14, and Tirrell Davies, 17, to serve a minimum of 15 years each.

Another three youths, Michael Williams, now 15, Jamel Jerome Bridgeman, now 15, and Kurits Yemoh, 17, who were previously convicted of manslaughter, were handed ten-year custodial sentences.

Yemoh had also pleaded guilty to attacking one of Kodjo's friends at Shepherds Bush Market in February last night

Kodjo was ambushed by the gang of youths armed with knives and bats, including two girls, after he was challenged to a fight by Davies.

The gang chased after the 16-year-old shouting "kill him, kill him", before stabbing him in the heart.

Talking to reporters outside the court this afternoon, councillor Marianne Alapini read a statement from Kodjo's mother, Ladjua Lesele.

She claimed she had found it "increasingly difficult to battle through the overwhelming pain and loss" since her son's death.

"As parents we have a collective responsibility to treat out children family values," Ms Lesele said.

"I would call upon young people to stop using weapons to avoid being in a gang and to stop all violent activities. Instead focus on an education, contribute positively to your community and make your parents proud of you.

"Today for me my precious gifted and talented son, Kodjo Yenga is 'alive' and with every waking breath I hold him in my heart."
