The body of a Metropolitan police inspector facing trial over allegedly killing his wife has been found in the woods in Hertfordshire.
A spokesman for Hertfordshire police said an investigation had been launched after a body was discovered in woodland near Broomhills Shooting Club, Markyate, yesterday.
Details about the cause of death are yet to be revealed but Hertfordshire police have said they are also investigating a "suspicious death" after a woman's body was found at a house in Gustard Wood. Details of the woman's identity are yet to be disclosed.
Media sources have identified the officer as Gary Weddell, 45, who was on bail after pleading not guilty to his spouse's murder. The officer was charged of the crime after a post-mortem revealed his 44-year-old wife had been strangled to death at their home last year.
He was granted bail with a surety of £200,000 and was scheduled to appear before a court in May.
