Husband of missing woman questioned

A body was discovered in woodland yesterday
Sussex police are continuing to question the husband of a missing TV make-up artist after a body was discovered in woodland yesterday.

David Chenery-Wickens, 51, is being quizzed over the disappearance of his wife Diane, 48, who was reported missing in January.

A woman found a decomposed body off Worth Lane, Little Horsted, near Uckfield, East Sussex, while walking her dog at around 10:00 BST on Thursday.

Police claim the body has yet to be identified and forensic and post mortem examinations will follow to establish the cause of death.

Mrs Chenery-Wickens worked on a number of BBC shows for over 20 years and was due to be travelling down to London on January 24th when her husband reported her missing.

Mr Chenery-Wickens was arrested on suspicion of murder at the time but was later released on police bail.

A Sussex police statement confirmed yesterday that the woman's body discovered was "heavily decomposed" and that they were "considering the possibility that it may be Diane Chenery-Wickens".

The body was discovered clothed and concealed in undergrowth roughly ten yards from Worth Lane.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Johns, who is leading the investigation, said: "Whilst the potential link with the Diane Chenery-Wickens' case is an obvious line of enquiry we need to keep an open mind until the formal identification and investigation of the scene have concluded.

"I am appealing for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity in and around this lane since the beginning of this year."

Police have called for anyone with any information which may assist the investigation to contact them on 0845 60 70 999.End of story
