Milk teeth and bone fragments found at former children's home in Jersey undergo initial testing
Milk teeth and bone fragments found at a former children's home in Jersey have undergone initial testing, it has been announced.

Officers from Jersey police, who are investigating more than 100 claims of child abuse at the home, said they would not comment on preliminary examinations.

Five teeth, which may not have come from the same child, and bone fragments that could be human or animal were found in the home's cellars earlier this month and in April.

"We cannot be sure at this stage if the bone is human or animal and it will be forwarded to the UK for tests," a spokeswoman for States of Jersey police said.

"The teeth could have come from the same child although further tests will be necessary to try and ascertain if that is the case, and how the teeth might have come to be there."

The teeth and bone fragments have now been sent for further examination on the mainland, including carbon dating and DNA testing.

On Monday former Haut de la Garenne warden Gordon Claude Wateridge appeared in court charged with sexually abusing three girls in the 1960s and 70s.

His case was adjourned for further hearings on Monday June 9th and Monday July 7th. He has still not yet entered a plea.

Later this month another Jersey resident, Claude James Donnelly, will also appear in court after being charged with raping a girl between 1971 and 1972.End of story
