A 39-year-old woman who works at a nursery in Plymouth has been charged with a range of sexual offences against children, police have said.
Vanessa George, from Efford, stands accused of two counts of sexual assault by penetration; two counts of sexual assault by touching; and one count each of making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children.
She was arrested yesterday following search warrants being carried out at the Little Ted's child day care unit in Laira where she works and her home address.
Ms George, according to reports, has worked at Little Ted's for the last two years and has been a childcare worker for more than a decade.
She is currently being held at Charles Cross police station ahead of an appearance at Plymouth magistrates court on Thursday June 11th.
More than 100 parents attended a meeting with Devon and Cornwall police's Chief Superintendent Jim Webster last night following great concern over the arrest and charges.
"Last night's meeting was well attended by those people associated with the nursery and we took the opportunity to allay their fears where possible and also further the police investigation into the allegations," he said.
"We will continue to liaise with local groups and people associated with the nursery and are committed with our partners to update concerned and interested parties at the earliest opportunity."
Devon and Cornwall police said Ms George was arrested after a 38-year-old Colin Blanchard was arrested in Rochdale and charged with possessing indecent images.
"The charges relate to images recovered from a computer, mobile phones and other items of software," a statement said.
"Following the investigation information was passed to Devon and Cornwall police who arrested a 39-year-old woman."
