A man who killed two young women in south-west London and attempted to murder another has been told he will die in prison.
Levi Bellfield, 39, was given a 'whole life' jail term at the Old Bailey today after being convicted yesterday of killing Marsha McDonnell, 19, in February 2003, and 23-year-old French exchange student Amelie Delagrange 18 months later.
He was also found guilty of the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy, who was 18 when he hit her with his car and left her for dead.
All three women were attacked by Bellfield after he watched buses late at night in the south-west of the capital.
The former bouncer was not in court to hear his sentence after refusing to attend.
Bellfield is now being investigated by police in connection with at least 20 similar attacks on young women in London.
Police are also looking at whether he played a role in the murder of 13-year-old Surrey schoolgirl Milly Dowler in 2002.
Detective Chief Inspector Colin Sutton of the Metropolitan police described Bellfield yesterday as a "clever, cunning, arrogant and very dangerous man".
"South-west London is a much safer place now he won't be about for some time," he added.
