A number of suspicious bags discovered close to the M40 last night were investigated by forensic explosive experts today, media reports claim.
It is unclear whether the bags contained liquid explosives similar to those thought to have been planned for use in the alleged transatlantic airliner terror threat foiled last month by British police.
But media speculation has linked the alleged plot to the bags, which were found close to High Wycombe between junctions three and four.
"Explosives officers attended the scene last night as a precautionary measure," a police spokesperson told the Associated Press news agency.
For most of today one lane of the M40 was closed on the eastbound side, but this has since been re-opened, according to media reports.
