Stand By Me actor Corey Feldman has issued a touching statement following the death of his long-time friend and frequent co-star Corey Haim.
Haim was found dead at the age of 38 on Wednesday morning following an alleged accidental drug overdose. The former teen star had suffered a history of narcotics addiction, with his drug dependency derailing his career on several occasions.
As one of Haim's co-stars in 1987 hit The Lost Boys and a young star of equal popularity during the 1980s, Feldman was one of the late actor's closest friends and colleagues.
The pair starred in acclaimed reality series The Two Coreys together, though the show was cancelled after two seasons when Haim's drug problems damaged the pair's friendship.
But after learning of his great ally's death, Feldman issued an emotional statement to Ok! magazine underlining the pair's closeness.
"I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door," he explained.
"They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren't even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face.
"I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school
"This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend."
Feldman continued: "We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference.
"Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived."
An autopsy is expected in the coming days to confirm the official cause of Haim's death.
