Mike Conway has told inthenews.co.uk he is coping well with the challenges of driving a formula one car and that he is happy with the progress he has made since getting behind the wheel of the Brawn Mercedes for the first time on Tuesday.
The Briton is sharing the BGP 001, which took Jenson Button and the Brawn team to both the drivers' and constructors' championship titles in 2009, with Japanese formula three champion Marcus Ericsson, but was the first to pilot the car.
During his first day of testing, the Indy Lights racer completed a total of 58 laps, during which he acclimatised to the car and worked through an aerodynamic evaluation.
On Wednesday morning before handing the car over to Ericsson, Conway completed the most running of all the drivers, circulating the Circuito de Jerez 83 times.
The Briton ended the morning with the sixth quickest time of the day and he said he is pleased with his performance.
"It's going OK," Conway told inthenews.co.uk.
"I went through loads of programmes with the team and we experimented with some different weights because next year's regulations mean the cars will have to cope with heavier loads.
"It was a good day and we got through a lot and I'm pleased with my performance, it all went well."
Conway has been working towards this young drivers' test since being invited to take part by the champion Brawn GP squad and he said his main focus has been on training his neck muscles.
"I've been preparing for a while, ever since I found out the test was coming up," said Conway.
"I've been training hard and it's not that different from what I do in an Indy car.
"I just did a lot more work on my neck because in Indy cars you don't need to work the neck so much.
"When I'm out of the car I just relax, but I've been training hard for a few weeks and it's paying off."
Conway will return to the cockpit for the final time on Thursday morning where he will continue working through an aerodynamic evaluation of BGP 001.
