Fans queued at midnight openings last night as controversial shoot 'em up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 went on sale after a West End premiere.
The video game had faced calls to be banned before it was even released due to a level in which gamers play as an undercover CIA agent killing people at an airport.
Before starting the level, however, players are asked if they are easily offended, which, if they are, allows the level to be skipped.
Publisher Activision is already expecting the game to become the biggest seller this Christmas, with 750,000 pre-orders and predictions of three million sales in its first week.
The shooter, being released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, received a premiere of sorts last night in Leicester Square in another example of the growing power of the industry.
Writing his review for the Guardian, Charlie Brooker dubbed Modern Warfare 2 the "Citizen Kane of repeatedly shooting people in the face".
