Stand-up comic Roy 'Chubby' Brown has appeared in court on a charge of common assault having been accused of hitting a 21-year-old woman in a car park.
The comedian, real name Royston Vasey, is said to have struck Kelly Oliver after an argument erupted when he came close to colliding with her grandmother's car in a Middlesbrough car park.
Sixty-five-year-old Brown, appearing in court under his real name, denied a charge of common assault at Teesside magistrates' court.
Vivienne Turner, prosecuting, said the notoriously foul-mouthed comedian reacted angrily after noticing Ms Oliver watching him reverse to within an inch of her grandmother's car at Sainsbury's in Middlesbrough town centre on September 2nd.
The court heard Brown wound down his window and shouted: "What the f*** are you looking at?"
Miss Oliver, now six months pregnant, said she did not respond but said Brown began shouting at her after walking towards her at a ticket machine in the car park.
Miss Turner told the court: "Miss Oliver describes the defendant appearing to be tense and aggressive and he shouted at her 'You should have moved your f****** car'."
Miss Oliver then claimed Brown hit her with his right hand on the left side of her face.
The alleged victim defended herself before her grandmother, Linda McAleer, 63, came to her aid shouting: "What are you doing? She's only a bairn." Brown allegedly replied: "A f****** bairn?"
The comic drove off when the grandmother told him she would note down the registration number of his car, the court heard.
The hearing has been adjourned until Tuesday.
