Former one-day international captain Paul Collingwood has been named as the England skipper for the upcoming World Twenty20.
The Durham all-rounder, who has been in South Africa for the Indian Premier League, will lead the 15-man squad for the tournament beginning at Lord's against the Netherlands on June 5th.
Concerns remain over Collingwood's suitability for the position, given his failure to land a starting place with the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.
However, national selector Geoff Miller believes the 32-year-old remains the best man for the job in a squad filled with "youthful exuberance".
Collingwood said: "I am really excited about captaining this squad for the World Twenty20, especially as it will be infront of our own fans here in England.
"At the end of the recent Caribbean tour it was well known that I wanted some time to think it over but now I am looking forward to the tournament.
"This is an opportunity where I will be captaining for a set three weeks in a World Cup - that kind of opportunity doesn't come round every day."
Collingwood said he had made the decision after "thinking long and hard about it", but after discussions with new team manager Andy Flower and the prospects of a victory in the tournament, given the "talented" squad, had pushed him to accept the role.
