Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has confirmed that an undisclosed fee has been agreed with Chelsea for England left-back Wayne Bridge.
The deal is thought to be worth between £10 million and £12 million and could see the defender move to Eastlands as early as this weekend.
Speaking at his press conference previewing Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie against Nottingham Forest, Hughes said: "My understanding is the clubs have agreed a fee.
"We need to speak to the boy and try to agree personal terms. If we can do that hopefully Wayne will be a Manchester City player, that's the aim.
"Wayne will probably travel to Manchester this evening and hopefully negotiations will go well and he can have a medical [on Saturday]."
City are set to be among the biggest spenders during the January transfer window due to the club's rich new owners from the Middle East.
And Bridge, who is behind Blues team-mate Ashley Cole in the pecking order for both club and country, looks set to Hughes' first capture this winter.
